Launching of the ICT Innovative Business IDEA Competition 2017-2018

The Honourable Yogida Sawmynaden, Minister of Technology Communication and Innovation launched the ICT Innovative Business IDEA Competition 2017- 2018 during a press conference held at Sicom Tower, in Ebène.

The ICT Innovative Business IDEA Competition 2017- 2018 is in line with the Government’s Vision of instilling a Technopreneurship culture in Mauritius.

This Competition aims at promoting the culture of innovative entrepreneurship among young people and stimulating job creation in local communities.  The motto retained is Gather Your Team! Create the next big IDEA in ICT.

 

According to the Honourable Minister, Government is committed in fostering a culture of entrepreneurship across Mauritius and boost the creation of SMEs. He emphasised that ICT, is one such thriving and prospective sector which has many facilities on offer so as to encourage young people develop their ideas and become entrepreneurs.

 

The Minister also pointed out that given the demand in the ICT Sector is huge it is necessary to create the bridge between University students and the job market. Thus by instilling an entrepreneurship culture as from the University level, the students will be in a better position to create their own enterprises and generate new jobs rather than in finding one as it is usually the case.

 

The 2017– 2018 ICT Innovative Business IDEA Competition is organised jointly by the National Computer Board, the University of Mauritius and the State Bank of Mauritius. This Competition targets all University Students: Undergraduates, Graduates, Postgraduates and Researchers. It will be conducted in three stages during which participants will have to demonstrate innovation and creativity at first; following which they have to submit a Business Model to convince the Jury of its feasibility and finally the commercial viability of the project need to be demonstrated.

 

This Competition welcomes only ICT related Business IDEAS, where team of a minimum of 2 and up to a maximum of four members are encouraged.
